Beginner’s Guide to Curry Village in Yosemite National Park

Camping and Lodging

Curry Village Tents and Cabins. Ever wondered what those white tents are if you’ve driven through the valley? Those are Curry Village tents and they are hard to get! Reservations open a year and a day in advance for these canvas tents with their wooden frames. Some have heat while others don’t and no tents have A/C. To reserve got to TravelYosemite.com.

Housekeeping Camp. This is a unique place to stay where you will be surrounded by 3 cement walls and a curtain on the fourth side. Somewhat open but less so than traditional camping. There are campfire rings here as well as picnic tables.

Upper Pines, Lower Pines, and North Pines Campgrounds. Traditional camping right in the heart of Yosemite Valley. Reservable on Recreation.gov. These sites include a firepit, a picnic table, and parking for up to 2 vehicles.

Dining and Refreshments

Seven Tents Pavilion. Open for breakfast and dinner, the seven tents pavilion offers both grab and go items as well as a basic breakfast of eggs, pancakes, and sausage or bacon. For Dinner there is the option of a half chicken meal or rigatoni. There is also a salad bar.

The Pizza Deck. Create your own or order one of five Yosemite themed specialty pizzas. You can order by the slice or a small, medium, or large pizza. Beer is on tap.

1899 Bar. Enjoy classic drinks or bar food like wings and sliders.

The Meadow Grill. This year the Meadow grill offers Mexican food. Most popular amongst guests are the tacos paired with a churro.

Pete’s Coffee. The Curry Village Pete’s Coffee (there’s another one in Yosemite Village) has the best variety of specialty drinks as well as pastries to choose from.

Hiking and Activities

The Mist Trail. Prepare for stairs and to get wet on this trail. Iconic views of Vernal and Nevada falls await you on this breathtaking 5.4 mile trail. Very steep.

Mirror Lake. 2 miles to the lake, this easy trail is paved and perfect for those with young children or beginner hikers. Mirror lake is also ADA accessible with a road that goes straight to the lake for those with a handicap placard.

Merced River Rafting and Swimming. Check the regulations of what time of year you’re visiting before entering the water! Enjoy an incredible ride down the Merced with views of Upper Yosemite Falls, Half Dome, and much more on your raft trip. Bring your own raft or rent from Curry Village.

Housekeeping Beach. This is the best place for swimming in the Merced, easily located next to Housekeeping Camp. This beach is great for playing volleyball, sunbathing, and taking a dip in the river. Remember to always have your food within reach so as not to harm the wildlife!

The Fen and Happy Isles. The fen unique area of Yosemite with lots of ferns, running water, and spongey land. Enjoy walking through this calm retreat before enter the Happy Isles. Discover trails and bridges that lead to otherworldly feeling islands in the middle of the Merced River.

The Nature Center. Have fun taking art classes, learning about the wildlife, and talking with volunteers about Yosemite. Great for kids!
